Awareness and Safety in our Catholic Communities

Awareness and Safety in our Catholic Communities:
The Catholic Church's safeguarding programme involves us all: the Parish Priests, the Parish Coordinators, volunteers and the cluster community.

We have a number of families with children of all ages and we have a number of volunteers who provide support to the children: for example, the Children's Liturgy, Music Group, Youth Group and Altar Server teams. Other examples of service are those who take communion to the sick or housebound, are members of the St Vincent de Paul Society or organise social activities for the whole cluster community. We warmly
welcome and fully appreciate the contributions made by all of those who undertake a ministry in our Cluster community. In law, anyone who works with children or adults at risk is obliged to undertake a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check. This process is carried out by people who have been approved by the Diocese to carry out the administration work involved.

The Bishop's Conference of Scotland has a further requirement that anyone who offers their services must complete an application form, self-declaration form and provide two character references.
Also, they are obliged to attend a presentation session to learn about "Awareness and Safety in our Catholic Communities". This information is intended to reassure you that all possible steps are being taken to ensure that the children, young people and adults at risk are as safe as they can be when they are in our care. It is meant as an encouragement, not a deterrent, to anyone asked to become involved in providing service.

The Parish Safeguarding Coordinators are:
St Catherine's: Stephen Small and Mandy Withers,
St Gregory's: Jacinta Flockhart and Morag Jamieson,
St John Vianney's: Eileen Lewis and Charlie Clark.
Please feel free to ask any one of them for more detailed information about the Safeguarding Policy of the Catholic Church in Scotland.
